Liam Kennedy has insisted that Ryan Fraser is now set for the exit door at Newcastle United.

The Scotland international was signed as a free agent in the summer of 2020 but has failed to make a lasting impact in a Newcastle shirt having suffered from several injuries that have restricted him to just 30 league starts.

Reports have suggested that a move back down south could be on the cards with Southampton tipped to sign the winger in January, and the stunning form of Miguel Almiron may have sealed Fraser’s fate this season despite being hailed “really important” by Paddy Kenny.

Kennedy was speaking on the NUFC Matters YouTube channel about how Fraser’s future now looks almost certain to be away from Newcastle.

(16:25) “Ryan Fraser is now a player that is almost ready for the chopping block, I think he’s one who’s going to be, if not January, definitely in the summer will be one of those players that leaves, we’ve not seen the best of him of course, but a lot of that is down to Almiron.”

Has Fraser been a flop at Newcastle?

TIF Thoughts on Fraser’s future…

Fraser’s time on Tyneside certainly hasn’t turned out how many would have hoped with just nine goal involvements to his name across all competitions and now even working under former manager Eddie Howe he’s failed to nail down a spot in the team.

The Newcastle ace is now likely to be seen as potentially a fifth-choice winger under Howe, and maybe even sixth-choice if Alexander Isak is to be seen as a long-term option out wide instead of playing through the middle, so it looks best for all parties if he does depart.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

If he was to depart, then the winger himself would likely leave thinking about what could have been as he’s made very little impact and would also be departing the club at such a great point for the Magpies as they’re on course to clinch European football.
