Liam Kennedy can’t see Newcastle United managing to land James Maddison in the January transfer window.

Maddison was a major transfer target over the summer with Newcastle seeing two bids rejected for the England international and despite reports suggesting the Magpies will go back in for Maddison, Kennedy doesn’t believe this will be the case.

Given how indifferent Leicester City have been this season, and how important Maddison has become to the Foxes it appears very unlikely that the two will depart midseason, despite Newcastle’s interest.

Kennedy certainly wasn’t confident about Newcastle’s chances of signing Maddison when he spoke on the NUFC Matters YouTube channel.

Do you want Newcastle to sign Maddison?

(23:20) “I don’t think it will be a short-term deal, I don’t think it’s one they can get done short term, but I think he’s one they will keep an interest in.”

TIF Thoughts on James Maddison…

It would be a sensational signing if Newcastle could bring in Maddison given the level he’s been performing at since the start of last season, with 41 goal involvements across all competitions, but it would be ludicrous for Leicester to let him move on.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

This is because he is simply their star man and to lose him at any point would be insane, but even more so in the middle of what has been a very rough season for the Foxes, unless they were offered a monster amount of money.

Luke Edwards has claimed that Newcastle won’t be looking to make big-money deals in January, which may come as a surprise to some Newcastle fans given they may have hoped to push on for a top-four place.
