Newcastle United are closely monitoring Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs stated that the frontrunners for the Ukrainian’s signature, Arsenal, have n0t made an official offer for the attacker, and this could open the door for Eddie Howe’s side to swoop in.

The forward has scored ten and assisted eight times in 18 appearances this season, and has spoken about his adoration for Arsenal.

However, should Mikel Arteta’s side not make a move for the 21-year-old, Newcastle could take advantage and make a statement signing.

“Arsenal haven’t actually made any formal club-to-club contact,” Jacobs stated.

“So, if Mudryk wants that move to Arsenal, he’s going to have to keep his fingers crossed that Arsenal escalate and advance the transfer.

“And if they don’t, then there becomes a window of opportunity for a club like Newcastle, who are also keeping a very close eye on the Mudryk situation.”

TIF thoughts on Mudryk…

Although a supremely talented player, given his price tag Newcastle may be better off looking elsewhere.

The Magpies have done extremely well this season and currently sit in third place despite injuries to summer signing Alexander Isak and Allan Saint-Maximin.

The latter occupies the left wing, where Mudryk typically plays, and with Shakhtar valuing him at over £85m, that money could be used to address other areas as Newcastle look to solidify their hunt for a European spot.

Additionally, as Gabriel Jesus is injured, Arsenal may choose to reinforce their attacking depth and make moves to sign Mudryk in January, with the Gunners currently top of the Premier League and looking to challenge Manchester City for the title, meaning the opportunity may not arise for Howe.
