Journalist Ross Gregory has shut down rumours that Newcastle United’s Saudi-based owners could be looking into a potential sale of the Tyneside club with a number of Premier League clubs up for sale.

Gregory was recently speaking on the NUFC Matters YouTube channel about PIF’s ownership of the club.

According to some recent reports, it isn’t inconceivable that PIF could dispose of the Toon in putting together a bid to buy Manchester United, who were recently put on the market by the Glazer family.

Which of these United States stars has been linked with the Toon recently?

And The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards picked up on The Athletic’s report highlighting the Saudi-based group would be unable to own both of the Premier League sides.

But Gregory has offered some reassurance to the Newcastle fanbase by suggesting this is not something that sounds like a possibility after hearing the noises coming from PIF since they arrived on Tyneside.

He said: “What I do know is that all the noises and all the pronouncements that are coming from PIF and coming from the club are how committed they are to Newcastle United, how they want to build something, how they see this as a long-term project – and they’re not here just to make a mark and then cash in and move on to something bigger or better.”

TIF Thoughts on Gregory’s comments…

Now, this would be quite something. If PIF were to suddenly dispose of Newcastle for the Manchester side, it would be pretty unbelievable.

However, with Edwards claiming it would not be possible for PIF to own both clubs, it could well remain a possibility.

But PIF have already made big strides in the Newcastle community through their work on and off the pitch, which has seen the fans return to St James’ Park after the turmoil of the Mike Ashley regime.

Hypothetically speaking, if PIF were to uproot and move on, they would leave a club which has shown the world its potential to become a big player in the Premier League. Nevertheless, it would feel like a huge blow to the fans on Tyneside.
