Newcastle United are set to appoint Paul Midgley as their new head of youth recruitment as PIF continue their development of the club.

And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has hailed the expected appointment from the Tyneside club after discussing the news on his latest Here We Go podcast.

Midgley will join the Magpies having spent time at Manchester City as a regional scout, with the Toon looking to transform their production line of young talent.

Newcastle are now showing signs of becoming a real threat in the Premier League, however, they do not have an academy product that looks of the standards of Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka or Phil Foden like the teams around them.

Which of these United States stars has been linked with the Toon recently?

But it seems there are now plans being put in place for the Toon to begin their development into one of the established top clubs of the Premier League, and it has impressed Romano.

He said: “Paul Midgley will be the new head of youth recruitment at Newcastle. He’s joining from Manchester City, so Newcastle are doing a very good job, not just with players, not just with talents, but also in rebuilding the structure of the club, the board of the club. Paul Midgley is coming.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

This will surely be music to the ears of all Newcastle fans given their recent record of young talents has not exactly lit the world alight.

Have PIF exceeded your expectations so far?

Among Eddie Howe’s current squad, the only real options to have come through the academy are Sean Longstaff and Elliot Anderson.

And it is probably fair to say, Longstaff – albeit showing some good form – is a player who would likely be upgraded if the Toon were given the choice.

But when the Toon are spending in the way they have over the last two windows, it would be incredibly helpful for Newcastle to be producing some serious talent that could dramatically improve their XI instead of going elsewhere to buy.
