Journalist Pete O’Rourke has stated to GiveMeSport that ‘a lot of players will be interested’ in joining Newcastle United when asked about the possibility of Christian Pulisic signing for the club in January.

According to ESPN, there is plenty of interest in the American ahead of the January window, with a potential loan move from Stamford Bridge mooted, while the Magpies are thought to be one of his admirers.

Pulisic just returned from World Cup duty with the United States, where they were knocked out in the last 16 by the Netherlands, but the winger enjoyed an impressive showing in the tournament. He achieved an average rating of 7.2 on Sofascore, providing three goal contributions across four games.

Here’s what O’Rourke had to say about a move for Pulisic to Newcastle: “I think a lot of players will be interested in a move to Newcastle right now.

“They’re flying high at the top end of the Premier League table. It looks like they could potentially finish in the top four this season as well, and obviously it’s a really exciting project under the new owners at Newcastle.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

We believe that Newcastle are certainly a club generating a lot of excitement, as they’ve been fantastic so far this season.

The Magpies sit third in the league and have the joint-best defence, conceding 11 goals in the Premier League – a total only matched by league leaders Arsenal. Furthermore, they’ve been clinical in front of goal, netting 29 goals, the fourth-most of the 2022/23 campaign so far.

Being so effective at both ends of the pitch would certainly be an attractive prospect to many players, especially if they could land Champions League football this season, so soon after their takeover.

Pulisic, who has been hailed as ‘unbelievable’, has only made three league starts for Chelsea this season, so you’d suspect he’d be keeping an eye out for a move that could get him consistent first-team football. Since heading to Stamford Bridge, the American has 44 goal contributions in 134 games, a tally that is perhaps a little underwhelming.

Newcastle may have the likes Allan-Saint Maximin and Miguel Almiron, but Pulisic would surely be an improvement on Ryan Fraser and Jacob Murphy – two players who haven’t even scored 10 goals between them during their time with the Magpies.
