Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier has sent a possible transfer message on Instagram after sharing a picture of touted target James Maddison.

While the World Cup takes place and both players hope to make a big impact for England in the latter stages of the tournament, focus back home domestically is starting to turn towards the January market.

Indeed, the winter window will open just days after Premier League football returns, so clubs will have a chance to reinforce their squads for the second half of the season with some key signings.

One player who could well up end up joining Newcastle United is Leicester City star Maddison, who has been linked with a move to the Magpies for some time now.

Only adding fuel to the flames of such rumours, Trippier shared a recent Instagram story that will no doubt excite fans – especially those who love a good transfer conspiracy – as he shared a picture with his England teammate alongside a winking emoji.

TIF Thoughts on James Maddison and Newcastle United…

Maddison has been superb for the Foxes so far this season, scoring seven goals in the league and earning himself a call-up to the England squad for the World Cup. Sadly, though, he hasn’t been able to feature at the tournament yet – mainly due to fitness issues.

Interestingly enough, when Premier League action returns, Leicester will come up against the Magpies, and the midfielder has already spoken ahead of that game.

Indeed, he was asked in the media about it and said: “That’s naughty, man! Me, Cal, Tripps and Popey have been having a bit of banter.

“It’s three on one to be fair of the Newcastle boys, but we’ve been having a bit of banter about the Boxing Day game coming up and stuff and obviously there was a bit of [transfer] speculation last summer. It’s been good fun, banter as you’d expect with the lads.

“I think the Foxes are coming out on top on Boxing Day, I’ve been saying that all week. It’s obviously three on one, but Newcastle are in good form, to be fair to them.”

As the January market won’t be open at that stage, he could hardly say anything different about the possible result, but it will certainly be music to the ears of Toon fans to hear that he has been talking plenty with his possible future Newcastle teammates. Perhaps they could be trying to convince him of a move, too.
