Sven Botman has claimed he’s now back on track as Newcastle United are put through their paces in Saudi Arabia.

The Dutch defender has settled into life on Tyneside very well, as he’s only missed two league games since his debut – which were the club’s only defeat in the Premier League this campaign and the 1-1 draw at the hands of Bournemouth.

Botman has formed a formidable partnership alongside Fabian Schar which has helped the Magpies boast the joint-best defensive record in the division, and after a few weeks off to rest and recover, he looks set to be back to his best.

After missing out on a spot at the World Cup, Botman took time off to recharge his batteries and sent a message on Instagram to Eddie Howe and Newcastle fans that they will love, which he captioned: “Back on track.”

While the likes of Alexander Isak are also on the comeback trail, it will be encouraging to see that another big-money summer signing is already back to thinking about Newcastle and how he wants to get back on track for his club rather than dwelling over missing the World Cup with the Netherlands.

It’s not just his defensive abilities that have impressed since moving to Tyneside, but also his ability to control the tempo of the game and ensure the Magpies can play out from the back, as he boasts the best pass completion percentage in the squad (as per FBref).

Botman and the rest of the Newcastle squad will be hoping that some warm-weather training as well as a mid-season friendly will be just what they need to get back up to the high standards they set themselves in the first half of the campaign and continue to push for a top-four place.
