Journalist Dean Jones has stated that Newcastle United would be ‘a good destination’ for Christian Pulisic amid links to the American winger.
Pulisic bowed out of the World Cup this weekend but showed his quality in Qatar, having scored the goal that sealed their place in the last 16 while setting up the United States’ consolation goal against the Netherlands.
It has been reported by the Daily Mail that the likes of Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester United are all interested in signing Pulisic.
Jones doesn’t yet know what the Magpies’ transfer strategy is yet but feels a swoop for the Chelsea winger – who was hailed “fantastic” by Jurgen Klinsmann – could be a move that benefits all parties.
Prior to this weekend’s matches, he told GiveMeSport: “For him personally, I think it would be a good destination to, I guess, find his feet again, but we’re a little way off that happening at the moment.
“And we’re going to have to see how the next few weeks play out first at the World Cup and then in terms of Newcastle actually getting their transfer strategy in place.”
TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…
We believe a move to Tyneside could be great for Pulisic. Newcastle currently have Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron as their wide options but are perhaps lacking in terms of quality depth. The American would certainly be an improvement on the likes of Ryan Fraser and Jacob Murphy.
Even Saint-Maximin has struggled at times this season through injury, so it could even be possible to see Pulisic put in a real challenge for the starting spot in Eddie Howe’s XI.
Furthermore, a change of scenery could do wonders for the 24-year-old. Pulisic has only started three league games this season for Chelsea and has never made more than 27 appearances in a Premier League campaign at Stamford Bridge.
At a young age, Pulisic impressed at Borussia Dortmund, picking up 45 goal contributions across 127 games for the German side.
So we know that the talent is there, and perhaps a manager like Howe can unlock it. Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes has described the Toon boss as a ‘football connoisseur‘, so he may be the man to unleash Pulisic’s potential should he decide to make the move to the north-east.
