Newcastle United are one of the sides watching young right-back Ivan Fresneda as a potential option in the transfer window.

This is according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has been speaking about the future of the 18-year-old on his latest Here We Go podcast.

Having won on their Premier League return against Leicester City, Newcastle will now go into the January transfer window sitting inside the top four.

Which of these United States stars has been linked with the Toon recently?

And despite spending fairly big in the previous two transfer windows, it seems as if the Saudi-based ownership are looking to identify players who could benefit the Magpies in the long term.

It seems as if the Toon are now prepared to battle some of Europe’s biggest clubs for the services of Real Valladolid right-back Fresneda, with Romano revealing Newcastle’s links with the youngster.

He said: “Ivan Fresneda is a talented right-back born in 2004, playing for Real Valladolid. Juventus [have been] working on this deal [for a] long time, but at the moment, they are not closing on this deal yet.

“And this is why other clubs are exploring this move, Newcastle, but also Arsenal, also Aston Villa and Borussia Dortmund are tracking Fresneda. Let’s see what happens.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

Despite being just 18 years old, Fresneda has become a regular in the La Liga side having made six league appearances already this season for the Spanish outfit.

Do NUFC need a big January window?

Kieran Trippier’s arrival on Tyneside has been a huge success story, with the Englishman becoming a key figure in this blossoming Newcastle side.

However, he is now 32 years old and we think looking for a potential long-term successor would be a smart move from the Magpies given Trippier’s importance to Eddie Howe.

And if they were able to bring in a youngster like Fresneda sooner rather than later, it could offer them an opportunity to develop him under Trippier’s wing ahead of the time he is needed to succeed the Englishman.
