Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United are not yet close to agreeing a new contract with winger Alejandro Garnacho.

With the 2022 World Cup now over, attention will turn back to the Premier League for fans of the Red Devils – and they would have been delighted by some recent club news.

Indeed, United have triggered one-year contract extensions for the likes of Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot and Fred. However, there is another Manchester United player who is yet to see anything change with regard to his future in Garnacho.

While speaking about the present situation on his YouTube channel, Romano explained: “Let me clarify that Garnacho is not something imminent, but Man United are still working to extend his contract.”

Recent reports have claimed that while the 18-year-old winger will see his current deal expire in about 18 months, the club are close to handing him a new deal worth £50,000 a week.

Judging from Romano’s comments, it seems as though those reports aren’t fully accurate and there is still some work to do when it comes to negotiations between player and club.

Just before the World Cup break, Garnacho scored his first league goal for United as he netted a winner in the 94th minute against Fulham, so it’s easy to see why United are keen to tie him to a new deal.

If he can keep developing as he has done recently, the club will surely put a great offer on the table for the teenager to sign.
