Manchester United are exploring a deal to sign PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The club have been strongly linked with the winger for a while, and the Dutchman has 13 goals and 17 assists this season.

Gakpo, who has been hailed as ‘sensational‘, played a starring role at the World Cup for the Netherlands, which will only have increased his value, but United remain interested in the versatile attacker.

The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo means Erik ten Hag now has to inject some goals into the side, and the 23-year-old has been in excellent form in front of goal this season.

Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Romano claimed that United are still interested in Gakpo, but after his World Cup displays, PSV will want in excess of €50m (£43m).

“Cody Gakpo remains a player they want,” Romano stated.

“They remain in contact with people close to Cody Gakpo, and so we can say that Man United are working on the Cody Gakpo deal, but there’s still no negotiation with PSV Eindhoven, who want now more than €50m for him.”

TIF thoughts on Gakpo…

A versatile forward capable of playing as a central striker is a priority for Ten Hag, and he knows Gakpo well from his time in the Eredivisie.

His goal record speaks for itself in terms of how clinical he is, and with Jadon Sancho suffering from a confidence crisis and poor form, he could slot straight into the team on the wing, creating a dynamic front three with Marcus Rashford and Antony.

£43m would be a good price for a player who is in the form of his life. We think Gakpo has the potential to become even better and could hit the ground running as soon as he arrives in the Premier League.
