David Ornstein stated on the ‘Rio Ferdinand Presents Five’ YouTube channel, that he now expects Marcus Rashford to sign a new deal at Manchester United.

However, he did touch on the previous interest in the 25-year-old from other European sides.

Rashford is currently at the World Cup with England. The United man already has three goals in the tournament so far, from four games.

The 25-year-old’s contract with the club runs out in the summer of 2023. The Red Devils will be likely looking to get his deal wrapped up sooner rather than later.

Ornstein claims that ‘he will end up signing a new contract’ with Man United.

He said (18:14): “We’ve seen PSG in the past have been linked with him was it last summer? Going back to earlier in his career, there was a serious situation involving Barcelona when I think some talks took place. I don’t know whether that was club-to club or more with the sort of surrounds of Rashford, but there will be so much interest.

“It is interesting when you hear other nations speak about England and they always point out Rashford and I think that’ll be replicated at club level as well. I’d be surprised if he played for another club in the Premier League. You never know but it would shock me given he’s Man United through and through, and my suspicion is that he will end up signing a new contract there.

“United are in a relatively comfortable situation. Because they’ve got until the end of the year, and then they’ve got an option year like where most of their players it’s a similar situation with Luke Shaw.”

TIF’s view on Ornstein’s comments….

We believe that Rashford should look to sign a new deal with Manchester United, it’s best for both parties involved.

Last season was a very underwhelming campaign for the 25-year-old, netting only five times last season. However, under Erik ten Hag, he looks to have found a new lease of life. Rashford has already equalled his league tally from last season, with four goals to his name.

With 14 league appearances so far this season, it’s clear that the Dutchman rates Rashford and has him in his future plans. A factor that could well cause the England international to sign a new deal with Man United.

Where the forward excels, is with the ball at his feet, where he can take on players. Rashford is in the top 11% of dribbles completed, compared with other forwards (FBref).

Following the end of the World Cup, that’s when the club may sit down the player and negotiate a new deal. Based on his stats from this season, we think it would be foolish for Manchester United to let go of Marcus Rashford.
