Manchester United are now very keen to get a potential deal for Cody Gakpo done sooner rather than later, with the January window now just a matter of days away.

This is according to TalkSport transfer guru Alex Crook, who has been speaking live on air about Erik ten Hag’s plans for the Red Devils ahead of next month.

Gakpo has been linked with a possible exit from PSV Eindhoven for a number of months, with previous links to the likes of Leeds United and Southampton.

In this quiz, we will take a look at who topped the club's scoring charts and when. First, who was United's top scorer this season?

However, it is now suggested that the Red Devils will be moving for the 23-year-old in the coming weeks, with his impressive form from last season continuing into the 2022/23 campaign.

And Crook has now been told this is a potential deal which could be signed and sealed ‘very soon’, with United looking to find a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

He said: “Manchester United [are] very keen to get this deal done. I was told yesterday [Tuesday], actually, that unless something drastic happens, this could well be signed and sealed very soon.”

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…

We still believe United need an out-and-out striker who will provide them with a main focal point up top, and we are not fully convinced Gakpo will be that man.

Should United go all out for Gakpo?

On the back of his recent form for PSV and for the Netherlands at the World Cup, Gakpo has shown he has the potential to become a potent goal threat in the Premier League if he is to make a move.

However, he has typically operated from a wide position, which would suggest he would provide more of a threat to the likes of Jadon Sancho’s future at United.

And with Marcus Rashford showing some recent signs of returning to his best form, a move for Gakpo could see the Englishman potentially stake a claim for Ronaldo’s spot up top under Ten Hag.
