Journalist Pete O’Rourke has given his verdict on Liverpool’s interest in Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, O’Rourke stated that a ‘big fee’ would be required for him to make the move to Merseyside.
The Sun reported that Brighton values Caicedo at around £70 million, Dharmesh Sheth has stated that the Reds do have an interest but the Seagulls wouldn’t be willing to sell him in the middle of the campaign.
He joined the club on deadline day of 2021 from Ecuadorian outfit Independiente del Valle for £4.5 million. Caicedo has 28 caps for Ecuador and he’s only 21-years-old.
O’Rourke stated, “It’d be a big fee if Brighton were to consider selling him in January. I’m sure if Liverpool and Chelsea do firm up their interest in Caicedo, it’s a move that maybe the player will be interested in, but it would have to be on Brighton’s terms.”

We believe that a move to Liverpool is very unlikely in January for Caicedo, but they should look to pursue a potential move in the summer. Brighton have commanded hefty fees for players in the past, last summer they sold Marc Cucurella to Chelsea for around £60 million.
Caicedo, who has been hailed as ‘ridiculous’, already has very efficient defensive capabilities, he ranks in the top 16% for tackles made and the top 18% for blocks made when compared to other midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues, the Champions League and Europa League (FBref). And, FBref even name him as a similar player to current Anfield star Fabinho.
To rank so highly in those categories at such a young age is remarkable, the sky is the limit for the midfielder. It’s no wonder that the Reds has an interest in Caicedo.
Liverpool may well look to bring in some new and younger options into their midfield, three players in that area are aged over the age of 30. In addition, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s deals with the club run out at the end of the season.
