Journalist Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport that should Liverpool spend in January, it would likely only be on ‘one significant name’.

The Reds currently have four players out injured at the moment, including Portuguese star Diogo Jota – and Jones believes that the return of some of their crocked players will mean that Jurgen Klopp won’t bring in a raft of new players in the January transfer window.

Liverpool have had an underwhelming season so far, as they lie sixth in the Premier League, 15 points behind leaders Arsenal.

And while the arrival of a big name in the next window could help turn around their season, Jones is not expecting too much transfer activity in the new year.

Jones stated: “I think the main thing to consider here, though, is what their injury situation looks like at the end of December when we return to Premier League action.

“At the moment, the [signs] we were given before the pause was that Liverpool’s squad was going to look a lot healthier when we come back. If that’s the case, maybe they don’t need to sign anyone anyway, and even if they do sign someone, realistically, it’s only going to be one significant name.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

Liverpool could certainly do with a little freshening up come January. The injury returns will provide a boost, but you get the feeling the Reds need more than just that.

Jude Bellingham is a name that’s been linked with a move to Merseyside in recent times. Sky journalist, Florian Plettenberg has stated before that Klopp is ‘pushing’ to sign him.

There’s no doubt that Bellingham would be a top, top signing for Liverpool. He’s in the top 4% of dribbles completed, top 10% for assists and top 7% for non-penalty goals (FBref). Showing that he’s really an all-round player in the middle of the park.

However, Fabrizio Romano has stated (16:38) previously, that the midfielder won’t be heading to Anfield in January.

So it’s unclear at this moment who they will possibly sign in January. Perhaps Klopp will focus on the squad he already has and then prioritise signings come the end of the season.
