Leicester City’s Daniel Amartey was slammed by Sean Walsh of 90min for his ‘car crash’ performance for Ghana against Uruguay.

The score finished 2-0 to the South American side. but with South Korea defeating Portugal 2-1, Uruguay were dumped out of the competition alongside the Black Stars.

There will be a real disappointment in the Ghana camp, as a draw would’ve been enough to progress to the round of 16 and they had the chance to take the lead when they won a penalty, but Andre Ayew missed from the spot after 21 minutes.

Amartey was playing at centre-back alongside Southampton man Mohammed Salisu, but Walsh was left far from impressed.

Handing the Foxes man a 2/10 rating, he wrote: “A total car crash from start to finish. Couldn’t defend properly at any level and was lucky not to have conceded a penalty.”

TIF Thoughts on Walsh’s comments…

We believe that it was a day to forget for Amartey. At 27 years old, he will likely have another chance to play for the Black Stars at the World Cup should they qualify for the tournament in 2026.

He’s made 10 starts for Leicester this season, but has had a pretty underwhelming Premier League campaign, with Amartey recording an average rating of 6.93 on Sofascore. In addition, the Ghanaian only averages just over one tackle and makes less than one interception per game.

However, the defender has managed to acquire a few trophies with the Foxes. He has a Premier League, an FA Cup and a Community Shield to his name so far, which is pretty good going for the 27-year-old.

Amartey will look to put this disastrous performance against Uruguay behind him and Foxes fans will hope that this isn’t a dent in his confidence and is just a one-off.
