Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Leeds United may struggle to convince Borussia Dortmund star Raphael Guerreiro to join the club given their position in the Premier League table.

The Whites currently sit in 15th place, just two points above the relegation zone, and face a tough battle to stay up this season.

Jesse Marsch is hunting for a new defender in January to provide a boost, with his side conceding 26 times in 14 games, and appear to have their sights set on Guerreiro.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones claimed that whilst the 29-year-old is a top target for the club, he may not be willing to join a potential relegation battle.

At the moment, because of their league position, they’re concerned it might be a bit of an issue persuading him to agree to anything,” Jones stated.

“So, Guerreiro is definitely one that Leeds should look at unfolding before they then look at other options.”

TIF thoughts on Guerreiro and Leeds…

Although the Euro 2016 winner would be an excellent signing, Jones is correct that Leeds’ precarious position in the table may affect their transfer business.

However, a deal does not look impossible, with his contract expiring at the end of the season, and it would be a coup if Leeds can pull the signing off.

The left-back ranks in the top 10% of European full-backs for goals, shots and progressive passes, highlighting his outstanding attacking ability and was part of the Portugal squad which reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar.

With Junior Firpo disappointing since his arrival from Barcelona, a new left-sided full-back may be viewed as a priority for the club, and a player with Guerreiro’s pedigree and quality could help them survive another season in the Premier League.
