Leeds United: Phil Hay believes Cody Drameh could be set for January exit

Phil Hay has claimed that he could see Cody Drameh leaving Leeds United in some capacity next month.

Drameh has been tipped for a midseason exit with some top European clubs said to hold an interest in the young full-back and it would be no surprise to see him exit given his lack of first-team minutes at Elland Road.

Since the start of last season, Drameh has been handed just 197 first-team minutes in the Premier League and while he did spend the second half of last season out on loan, that is still not enough for a young star.

Therefore, Hay has admitted he can very easily see Drameh demand a transfer when January comes around as he spoke on The Phil Hay Show:

(51:30) “I can see him going, I think Drameh clearly has it in his head that he wants to play and he wants to be playing and I think Leeds are going to have to find some way of making that happen.

“Whether that’s a loan out or permanently [going] out or whether they say to him you’re going to be more involved but I probably suspect he would look at the way the team is at the moment and wonder whether he’s going to get ahead of Kristensen.

Will Drameh leave permanently in January?

“It’s not as if Kristensen is in the Ayling boat, Kristensen is sort of mid-20s so he’s got plenty of years ahead of him and plenty of miles left in the tank. I feel as if when push comes to shove, Drameh will probably go in some form.”

TIF Thoughts on Drameh’s future…

The fact that clubs such as Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United are said to be interested in Drameh would suggest he certainly has a lot of potential to become a top-class player, which makes it bizarre as to why he’s constantly shunned at Leeds.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

Despite spending just a few months on loan at Cardiff City last season, Drameh managed to pick up their Player of the Season award and was labelled ‘phenomenal‘ by his then-manager Steve Morison, what a talent he is already, so when Leeds signed Rasmus Kristensen love the summer that would have likely angered the full-back.

It could be an interesting January for Leeds as they look to recruit new players in order to push away from the threat of relegation, but with players such as Drameh and Mateusz Klich widely tipped to leave, they could then be forced into replacing them as well.

Anyone should be able to get ahead of Kristensen, he has the pace of a tree and thinks defending is about pulling ugly faces.
