Presenter Conor McGilligan has expressed his excitement as Leeds United have been linked with a January transfer for midfielder Nicolas Raskin.

With the Premier League now set to return, the winter transfer market will also shortly be opening up once more. And so, over the next few weeks, the Whites will likely be linked with a number of new players.

According to Belgian outlet Voetbal Nieuws, Raskin – who currently plays for Standard Liege – is one such footballer who could be on his way to Leeds as he is thought to be keen on a move to England.

Indeed, the 21-year-old is said to have fallen out with his club and will not extend his contract which expires in the summer, and could well leave in January.

All this talk has certainly left McGilligan excited. Speaking on the One Leeds Fan Channel, he said it was ‘something to keep an eye on’ and praised Raskin as a player with ‘a lot of pedigree’.

He said: “Now, that could be a Mateusz Klich replacement, obviously he is a fair bit younger. That would be something, when you look at someone like Nicolas Raskin – he’s got a lot of pedigree behind him, [Aston] Villa were in for him, apparently got very close to signing him. That didn’t happen, that fell through.

“Would that be a succession plan to Mateusz Klich? Definitely something to keep an eye on, definitely something to keep an ear on as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Nicolas Raskin and Leeds United…

As McGilligan mentions, Klich could be on his way out of the West Yorkshire club this winter, so the Whites may well be in the market for a new midfielder over the coming month or so.

Still only 21 years of age, Raskin certainly looks as though he has the potential to develop into a top player. Indeed, despite his young age, he has already played nearly 100 games for Standard Liege.

And despite his contract issues, he has still been trusted to play 17 times in the league for the club this season, picking up four assists and one goal in that time. All in all, if Leeds can land the midfielder on the cheap, we think he could represent an exciting upgrade on Klich should the Pole depart.
