Journalist Beren Cross has revealed that Leeds United defender Diego Llorente has had to have ‘minor surgery’ after suffering a hand injury.
While most football fans have their attention firmly focused on events in Qatar at the 2022 World Cup, those who follow the Whites will be interested to see how their team is getting on in their preparation before the Premier League returns.
Leeds are actually overseas at the moment. Indeed, they have travelled to Spain this week for a five-day training camp which will end with a friendly against Elche.
However, it seems as though it has not gone smoothly so far at Leeds with Patrick Bamford missing through injury and with Llorente already having to sit out of today’s action due to an injury.
While speaking on a Facebook stream for LeedsLive, Cross said (0:32): “One extra man missing from training today. Diego Llorente suffered a minor hand injury yesterday. So he’s getting some treatment, a minor surgery on that.
“So he’ll be back in training, I would assume tomorrow or the day after perhaps. But that won’t keep them out of training. But he’s just missing for today.”
TIF Thoughts on Diego Llorente and Leeds…
This setback will likely come as a bit of a frustration for Llorente who may have been hoping to impress in the camp seeing as he hasn’t had the best of seasons so far.
Indeed, the Spaniard was slammed in the media for his ‘pitiful’ display against Brentford earlier on in the season. Since that 5-2 defeat, the 29-year-old has played just once in the Premier League and has clearly fallen out of favour at Leeds.
Still, at least it sounds as if this injury isn’t one to keep him out of action for long with Cross suggesting that he should be able to return to training soon.
