Micah Richards has criticised Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams for his part in Netherlands’ opening goal against the USA.

Adams has caught the eye in the Whites midfield for his impressive performances since joining in the summer, taking his form onto the World Cup stage with the USMNT.

Unfortunately for the side and Adams, their journey in Qatar came to an end in the last 16 as they were beaten 3-1 by the Netherlands.

During the post-match analysis on BBC, Richards highlighted the 23-year-olds’ error during the opening goal which saw Memphis Depay score after only 10 minutes.

(2:27:30) “They were a little bit naïve today, the way they pressed, out of position and then you can’t really question that willingness to get back but it’s just that split second where you switch off, you don’t cover the gap and unfortunately Adams doesn’t get close enough to Depay,” Richards said.

TIF Thoughts on Richards’ comments…

It was a poor start by the Whites’ midfielder who failed to properly track the run of the goal scorer, although he turned his game around as he picked up a 7.2 match rating, the highest in the US side, via Sofascore.

Has Tyler Adams been Marsch's best buy?

No

The former RB Leipzig man completed 93% of his passes including five long balls and created one big chance as Gregg Berhalter’s side pushed to get back level after being 2-0 down at the break.

But ultimately America were unable to recover from going behind so early on after Adams’ uncharacteristic lapse in concentration.
