Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch stated on the ‘Men In Blazers’ YouTube channel that he’s ‘never been more proud’ of Tyler Adams following his recent comments during a pre-match press conference.

Adams had an exchange with an Iranian journalist about his pronunciation of the country and spoke out about racial discrimination in America.

On the pitch, the midfielder has shone for the United States at the World Cup. In the group stages, he had an 89% pass accuracy and averaged 3.3 tackles made per game, according to Sofascore.

The Leeds manager was full of praise for his player and the way Adams handled the situation, saying that his compatriot has a lot of potential on and off the field.

He stated: “The way Tyler Adams behaved in the press conference before Iran… I don’t think I’ve ever been more proud of a player I’ve coached in my entire life.

“He has always been someone that I know has major potential as a person, and even more so than as a player. And the way that he handled that, the intelligence he showed, the humility. You don’t see many professional athletes behave like this in a heated, heated situation. I mean, the whole press conference was difficult to manage and Tyler was just absolutely phenomenal.”

TIF Thoughts on Marsch’s comments…

Adams really showed a great level of maturity for a 23-year-old when addressing the questions and comments posed to him.

A lot of us should really take note of the importance of education that the midfielder mentioned in the press conference.

Adams is becoming a real top talent in the midfield for his club and country. For his displays over the past year, he’s in the top 4% for blocks made and the top 9% for tackles when compared to other midfielders (as per FBref).

Those stats show that the Leeds man is someone that is always going to look to get the ball off the opposition, no matter what the costs are.

There’s been talk of Adams’ future with the Whites already, as Football Insider has claimed that Manchester United are keeping tabs on him. However, journalist Dean Jones has said that he will likely access his options come the summer.

And judging by Marsch’s comments, Leeds would be losing more than the midfield presence he brings if Adams were to depart.
