Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has come under fire after comments made during his pre-match press conference.

Presenter and YouTuber Joe Wainman has slammed the American for his admission that some of Leeds’ injury niggles may have come through his recent tough training sessions.

Marsch said: “We’ve invested a lot in the fitness of the team as well so some of [the] little injuries have come because we’ve pushed them a little bit physically, but I think that was one of the reasons why we kind of held guys back last night is we didn’t want to jeopardise them for a week later.”

The Whites return to action on Wednesday with a home clash against Manchester City and Marsch has been shedding some light on the potential injury issues ahead of the game at Elland Road.

First up, which of these World Cup debutants could Leeds go back in for this winter?

With Stuart Dallas, Luis Sinisterra, Crysencio Summerville and Patrick Bamford all suffering from their own respective issues, Marsch will potentially have limited options to pick from next week.

And having previously taken a swipe at Marcelo Bielsa’s intense training sessions, Wainman has slammed Marsch for his recent comments from Thorp Arch.

He said: “If I speak, I’m in trouble, because my man [Marsch] was speaking about Bielsa overtraining people, and now he’s admitted in a press conference that [has] been put out there, saying we invested a lot in fitness, and we’ve pushed them that much, hence why some of them have niggles. So does that mean you’re overtraining them, then?

“What I don’t appreciate is when you’re saying on one hand, they were overtrained, and now you’re admitting to overtraining them, in effect.”

TIF Thoughts on Wainman’s comments…

We do have to agree with Wainman on this as it does seem like a strange thing to admit – even if it is the case given his previous comments.

Do you have confidence in Marsch?

And we did think Marsch’s comments on Bielsa were a little bit unnecessary at the time and they certainly do not make for great reading following Thursday’s admission.

But we do also question why he is pushing his side so hard in training when they have already had serious injury setbacks this season and will return to action amid a battle to stay in the Premier League.
