Leeds United must keep Crysencio Summerville happy at the club amid concerns over interest, according to pundit Tam McManus.

Summerville had been in brilliant form for Leeds in the run-up to the World Cup, with the Dutchman scoring in four consecutive games before the pause of the league season.

The 21-year-old arrived at Elland Road in 2020 from Feyenoord and immediately joined the U21 side, where he scored 14 and assisted 12 across three years in the youth side. That form saw him make his league debut in September of last year but has only now found himself in the side consistently.

Four 90-minute outings in the previous five have seen him cement his place in Jesse Marsch’s side, but McManus has told Football Insider of his concern that Summerville may become unhappy if he doesn’t receive a new contract to match his newfound first-team status, despite the article claiming he signed a new deal in the summer.

McManus said: “We don’t know what was in that deal he signed.

“But I doubt it covers the things he is doing in the squad now. When he signed that deal, he was a fringe player, now he is one of the first names on the teamsheet.

“He should have a deal that reflects that, in my opinion. Leeds won’t want to lose him as well so they need to keep him happy.

“It would not surprise me if clubs are looking at him already even though he has only just really made a name for himself.

“I really like him and I’m sure the club do too, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him sign a new deal that reflects his new role pretty soon.

“That would be the sensible move.”

TIF Thoughts on McManus’ comments…

Summerville has come on a long way this year and could easily be one of the most surprising packages of the league.

His recent goals have been vital to getting Leeds back on track after some woeful form saw them pick up just two points from eight games before the Dutchman’s last-minute winner at Anfield ended their winless run.

The Whites have one of the hardest restarts possible with Manchester City and then Newcastle United to follow, with Summerville surely set to start in both if he is fit.

With McManus saying he will want more lucrative demands to be met should he continue this rise and considering his current wages are £8.4k-per-week (as per Salary Sport) – which currently sees him earn seven times less than Jack Harrison – it also acts as a safety net for Victor Orta to get him tied down and warn off any interested buyers.
