Leeds United presenter Ger Lynch has claimed there would be uproar from fans should the club re-sign Chris Wood.

Newcastle United striker Wood had previously been linked with a move to Elland Road in January by Football Insider as a short-term option to reduce the burden on Rodrigo amid Patrick Bamford’s torrid season.

The New Zealand international had previously played for Leeds between 2015 and 2017 where he bagged a decent return of 44 goals and nine assists in 88 games.

But with the target man starting only twice for the Magpies this season in the league and netting only once in the top flight, he looks set to move on again only 12 months after arriving in Tyneside.

Despite the lack of firepower up front, Lynch spoke firmly on his YouTube channel against the move claiming it’s just agent work and nothing to it.

“I think it’s a very busy agent panicking to try and get a player [a move] who’s not getting any game time.”

“His best years are way behind him and he doesn’t suit the style of play that Leeds play, it’s an agent story and a bit lazy.”

“If Leeds signed Chris Wood as their striker there would be uproar,” Lynch said. (2:06)

TIF Thoughts on Lynch’s comments…

Wood would be as close as possible to humanly personify the saying square pegs in round holes.

His play style as useful as it is can be a very choosy one for managers and certainly one that wouldn’t fit Jesse Marsch’s high-pressing and energetic football.

The 31-year-old’s rank in the bottom 1% of strikers in the last year for dribbles completed with 0.15 per 90 showing how little of a dynamic option he presents to Jesse Marsch, especially when he’s in the top 1% for aerial duels won per 90 with 7.47 in the same time frame.
