Journalist Joe Thomas has claimed that Everton will be in the market for two new attackers during the January transfer window.

The Toffees were one of the busiest clubs during the summer, which saw the Everton hierarchy hand Frank Lampard eight new players, but their new arrivals have not been able to help take them to the next level, with the club just one point above the bottom three.

With the January transfer window now just around the corner, it presents an opportunity for Everton to bring in reinforcements that can help them kick on and move away from the relegation zone during the second half of the season.

And Thomas, who was in Australia during Everton’s mid-season break, has claimed on the Royal Blue podcast that they want to sign two new attackers next month.

Will Everton sign a new striker in January?

No!

He said: “I think there is a plan. They’re under no illusions that they need to strengthen attacking-wise. The hope is they can bring in two attacking players – they have profiles, they have names; I think at the minute, they might be making tentative, exploratory moves.”

TIF Thoughts on Everton’s transfer plans…

It will be a hugely important month for Everton and Lampard as it will be the manager’s second full transfer window to put his mark on the side, and if players don’t arrive or results fail to turn around after January, his future could be up for debate.

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

Everton clearly know that they need to improve in the final third, as Thomas alluded to, but it’s not as easy as bringing in who they believe to be the right players, as they don’t want another Neal Maupay arriving in January – with the Frenchman having scored just one goal so far this season.

The Toffees will also have to ensure they can balance the books next month, which will also make signing players very difficult as they may be forced to offload squad members before they try and bolster Lampard’s attacking line.
