Journalist, Simon Phillips has given his verdict on Everton’s interest in Watford and Senegal star, Ismaila Sarr.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Phillips said that the interest in the player was ‘legit’.

According to Calciomercato (via Tutto Udinese), Sarr is open to leaving Vicarage Road and the Toffees have enquired about him. However, they’re put off by his £35 million price tag. Italian side Udinese are also said to be a possible destination for the Senegal international.

Last summer, the winger looked set to join Aston Villa. A fee had been agreed upon between the two sides, but problems araised when details were being discussed.

Phillips said, “You can be pretty sure that the interest there is legit, especially from Frank Lampard’s side.”

TIF’s view on Phillips’ comments…

We believe that Sarr would be a great addition to Everton’s squad. He would add to their attacking firepower in front of goal.

Finding the back of the net has been a real issue for the Toffees this season. They’re the joint-second lowest scorers in the league with 11 goals.

Furthermore, Everton are in real trouble as far as their Premier League safety is concerned. They sit in 17th place and only one point above the relegation zone.

Sarr has experience playing in England’s top flight, with 18 goal contributions across 50 Premier League appearances, which is not a bad tally at all, considering Watford have been in and out of the league in recent years.

However, the price tag set by the Hornets is pretty steep. If Everton can negotiate a better deal for him, then he would be a needed attacking addition to a team which has struggled for goals.
