Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers has claimed that Everton are unlikely to pull off a move for Ben Brereton Diaz in the January transfer market.
Back in November, it was reported (via 90min) that the Toffees were ‘long-term admirers’ of the Blackburn Rovers striker and so the club may be keen to act upon that this winter.
Talking on All Together Now, Myers said: “I don’t think he will be available in January, it’s as simple as that. Blackburn are flying high, I think they are third in the Championship now.
“They’re going to lose him at the end [of the season], what money are they going to get for him now, you know? So I don’t see that happening.”
TIF Thoughts on Ben Brereton Diaz and Everton…
Brereton Diaz was brilliant in the Championship last season, scoring 22 league goals and adding three assists to his tally. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Everton have been watching him for a while.
This term, the good form has continued as his nine league goals and one assist have helped make Blackburn promotion contenders. And with his contract expiring in the summer, he could be off in the near future.
However, Myers makes a good point. If he was to leave this winter, he might not be able to bring in a huge transfer fee due to his contractual situation, so Blackburn may well prefer to keep him around to help with their hunt for Premier League football.
Unfortunately, that does make it an awful lot harder for Everton to land him in January, so it looks as though they may have to come back to this one in the summer – but that doesn’t help them with the goalscoring issues at Goodison Park right now.
