Frank Lampard has delivered his assessment on Everton youngster and prospect Tom Cannon.

Speaking to the club’s YouTube channel, Lampard said that Cannon is ‘doing very well and described him as ‘another level’ to already be making an impact.

Cannon featured in the Toffee’s mid-season tour of Australia and he was even able to get onto the scoresheet in the 5-1 thrashing of Western Sydney Wanderers.

The club even highlighted the spectacular displays from Cannon, as well as youngsters Issac Price and Stanley Mills during their trip to Australia.

Lampard stated (7:05), “He’s [Tom Cannon] doing very well at the minute to a sort of throw himself self into the picture and the way he’s training with us and playing and scoring goals when he’s playing for the 21s. It’s good it’s really good to see the development of him. To step into the first and make an impact is as I say is another level. So at the minute he’s showing everything he can. So that’s great because it’s a lovely thing.”

TIF’s view on Lampard’s comments…

It’s clear Lampard clearly regards Cannon very highly and has noticed the impact he’s made at youth level and when given his chance in the first team.

Everton have already given the forward some opportunities in recent times, he’s played two senior games one in the Premier League and another in the Carabao Cup this season.

Cannon has excelled for the Toffees under-21s in the 2022/23 campaign, providing seven goal contributions in 10 Premier League 2 appearances and netting five in five in the EFL Trophy.

Lampard may look to reward this form with more first-team opportunities off the bench, Everton only have Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Neal Maupay as options up top.

Another option could be to loan him out in January or next summer, a number of Football Leagues sides may have noticed what he’s achieved at the club so far and want to take a chance on him.

A striker seems to be the priority for the next transfer window, so that’ll be a big indicator as to what the next step in Tom Cannon’s footballing journey is.
