Ex-Everton man and Sky Sports pundit Kevin Campbell told Goodison News that the club’s squad needs ‘cleaning up’.

Manager Frank Lampard took charge of the club back in January. It was at the end of the month, meaning the Toffees boss has only had one full window to buy and sell players.

He stated recently that a striker is an area where the club are looking to strengthen come January. They only have 11 goals this season – the joint second-worst in the division – so they clearly need a clinical and proven goalscorer.

Campbell believes Lampard should be able to shape the squad in the way that he wants and has backed the manager to do well with Everton.

He stated: “I think it’s the squad, he’s been able to assess that. He’s going to have to shape the squad how he wants it.

“No disrespect to any player, but if the manager doesn’t fancy you, he’s going to change. It’s the manager’s right.

“There’s a lot of players at the club who haven’t been bought by Lampard, but by different managers over the years, and it needs cleaning up.

“It does. It needs cleaning up.

“Lampard, I think, is going to do the right thing. Given time, and I know that’s a very difficult thing to say in football, I think he’ll do a really good job.

“Whether he gets the time or not, I don’t know.”

TIF Thoughts on Campbell’s comments…

As Everton manager, Lampard has had a tough job on his hands. Of his 38 matches in charge, he’s only won 12 and lost 19.

So you can see why there would be potential question marks around him from some Toffees fans. It seems that the Everton board will stick with Lampard after the World Cup, per Football Insider.

Goals are what they need, and one striker they’ve been linked with is Beto from Udinese, according to Calciomercato. He’s certainly got goals in him with six goals in 15 Serie A games. Additionally, the forward stands at around 6ft 4in, making him an imposing figure.

However, with no Premier League experience, it could be a gamble should Everton want to bring him in.

Whoever Lampard signs, he’ll hope that they can help steer the Toffees away from the relegation zone. They’re only one point off the bottom three, but there is still plenty of time to turn things around.
