Sky Sports pundit and former Everton striker Kevin Campbell has urged the club to sign Ismaila Sarr this January.
It’s been reported by The Mirror that the Toffees are prepared to pay Watford £35m for the Senegalese winger.
Fellow Premier League side Aston Villa were close to landing the player in the summer. However, a full agreement was not able to be reached by both clubs.
And speaking to Goodison News, Campbell described the player as a ‘handful’, claiming the club ‘need firepower’ in the new year.
Campbell stated: “I think Ismaila Sarr has been on the lips of a few clubs after Watford were in the Premier League last season, but nobody pulled the trigger.
“He’s a very capable player, a very good player, as he showed at the World Cup.
“He’s a handful and Everton need firepower. If you can bring in players, two or three, who can score goals, then you’ve got a chance.
“Then it can take you away from teams, as opposed from when you can’t score, it becomes a dogfight.”
TIF Thoughts on Campbell’s comments…
Everton need to boost their attacking options in the January transfer window and Sarr could be a useful asset.
Sarr – dubbed a “freak” by ex-teammate Ben Foster – has got plenty of Premier League experience, providing 18 goal contributions in 50 matches. When you consider that Watford have struggled in England’s top flight over recent years, that’s not a bad tally at all.
The Toffees have really struggled in front of goal this season, leading to them fighting for Premier League survival. Everton sit 17th in the league and have the joint second-lowest goalscoring tally with 11.
In our view, one issue would be the price tag, as despite a respectable goal contribution return, we are unsure it would justify a £35m outlay.
However, if Everton can haggle for a lower price, Sarr could be worth a gamble.
