Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech was labelled ‘spectacular’ by journalist Chris Smith for his performance, as Morocco beat Canada, 2-1.

Just four minutes into the match, the Blues wide man found the net which gave the African side the lead. They’d then extend their lead through Youssef En-Nesyri. Nayef Aguerd’s own goal would give Canada a goal back, but it wasn’t enough.

Ziyech’s opening goal was his first for Morocco in this tournament. He also picked up an assist in their second match against Belgium.

Whoever finishes second in Group E will play Morocco in the World Cup’s Round of 16.

Here’s what writer, Smith had to say about Ziyech’s display: ‘Hakim Ziyech – 8/10 – Took full advantage of Borjan’s error to open the scoring and always looked on the edge of doing something spectacular.’

TIF’s view on Smith’s comments…

This display at the World Cup could mean one of two things for Ziyech.

The first is that it may impress manager, Graham Potter and he’ll give him more opportunities. The other option is that it’ll potentially attract other clubs to want to take the winger from Chelsea.

Of the two, the latter is probably the more likely. He joined the Blues back in 2020 but hasn’t shone like many would’ve hoped.

He’s only made five league appearances this season. Ziyech is yet to make 30 appearances in a Premier League season with Chelsea and only has 14 goals to his name.

When you look at his goal contribution stats for his previous club, Ajax, they’re very impressive. In his final season with the Eredivisie club, he got 19 goal contributions in the league alone.

So, there’s no doubt that Ziyech has the ability. One club who are interested in the Chelsea man, is Serie A side, AC Milan, per Gazzetta dello Sport.

It could prove best for both parties, Ziyech gets a chance to play some consistent first-team football. Meanwhile, Chelsea get a fee for a player that could then could go towards their transfer budget.
