Dean Jones has claimed that Todd Boehly wants to make Joao Felix a statement signing at Chelsea.
Chelsea are set to be very busy again in the transfer window by adding multiple names to their previous €281.99m (£245.5m) summer spending.
They’ve already confirmed the signing of David Datro Fofana for £8.6m from Molde as a replacement for the injured Armando Broja, as well as being on the verge of completing deals for Andrey Santos and Benoit Badiashile, with the latter reported by The Sun to cost between £30m-£35m.
It seems that Boehly has got his eyes on another signing with Atletico Madrid’s wantaway striker Joao Felix available next month with The Telegraph reporting the Blues’ interest on Boxing Day.
Jones told GiveMeSport that Boehly wouldn’t hesitate on splashing the cash once again with the Portuguese seen as the ideal statement signing in January.
“A loan and an option is definitely something that is tempting.
“I think that some money involved in that loan will be totally fine because, clearly, Todd Boehly wants to show that Chelsea are serious about attracting some of the biggest names in football and Joao Felix is still that,” Jones said.
TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…
Felix has proved in limited minutes in a struggling Atleti side that he can produce with seven La Liga goal involvements in just six starts for the Madrid side.
He then followed that up with a goal and two assists in the World Cup as the 23-year-old firmly put himself in the shop window.
However, it seems Felix will only be available on a loan deal with Atleti not willing to cut ties with the £113m they spent on the forward in 2019.
As well, Chelsea aren’t in dire need of another forward unless Graham Potter is forced into continuing with his unpreferred back four against Bournemouth, with Mason Mount being deployed in midfield there would be an option to invest in someone longer term.
