Fabrizio Romano has provided his verdict on Chelsea’s January pursuit on a new striker.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer guru claimed that the club are ‘actively working’ to sign a new forward in the January transfer window.

Additionally, the journalist gave another update in regard to their summer business. He said that ‘everything is agreed’ for RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku.

Following the injury to Armando Broja, their desperate need for a new striker will have likely sprung the Blues into action. The Albanian will miss the remainder of the season after suffering an ACL injury against Aston Villa.

Romano stated: “What we have to say is that Chelsea are now actively working to find a new striker. Chelsea want to find a new striker for January.

“[A] Christopher Nkunku deal is almost ready for the summer, everything is agreed. But for January, they want to look for a new striker after Broja’s injury.

“So let’s see which kind of opportunity they will find, they’re exploring the market, there are many names on the table. It will take some time, it’s not something imminent, but Chelsea are working on some of the options, and so negotiations will take place in the next days and weeks.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

We believe that Chelsea are crying out for a new striker in January as they’ve really struggled in front of goal this season.

The Blues have only scored 17 goals in the league so far and only seven Premier League sides have scored less than that tally so far.

Raheem Sterling is their top scorer in the league this season, finding the net five times. Kai Havertz ranks below him in second place, scoring four league goals.

According to reports in Italy, the club are willing to offer a massive salary and transfer fee to sign Milan’s Rafael Leao. The Portuguese ace has 11 goal contributions from 14 Serie A matches this season, and should they land him, he could well be their solution to their goalscoring issues with stats like that.

Adding more firepower up front will hopefully turn Chelsea’s season around in the second half of the season with the Blues sitting in 8th place, eight points off the Champions League spots.
