Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Aston Villa transfer target and World Cup ace Marcus Thuram could leave during the January transfer window.

Unai Emery will be hoping to receive some serious financial backing during the upcoming window to ensure he can put his mark on this Villa squad as soon as possible and help move them up the table.

Therefore, it should be no surprise that they are being linked with a move for Thuram, who’s had a great time of late with Borussia Monchengladbach, having recorded 21 goal involvements since the start of last season – and despite being set to become a free agent next summer, he could leave as soon as January.

This is according to Romano, who spoke about Thuram and his potential price tag on the House of Champions YouTube channel.

He said: “For Marcus Thuram, it’s a big opportunity, because I’m told he’s not going to extend his contract with Borussia Monchengladbach. He has a new agent; he decided to change in August, so the plan is pretty clear – he wants to change and to try new opportunities.

Do you want Villa to sign Thuram?

No!

“It’s true that Bayern [Munich] are tracking him, but at the moment, there are no advanced negotiations with the player. And in Italy, it’s true that Inter are really appreciating him.

“I mentioned that Marcus Thuram was one of the priority targets for Inter before the injury, then he got the injury and so the deal collapsed between Inter and Borussia Monchengladbach, so they are still keeping an eye on Marcus Thuram.

“I think he has a chance to leave in January or in the summer as a free agent. In [the] case of a January move, €10m are needed – this is the price tag from Borussia Monchengladbach for Marcus Thuram.”

TIF Thoughts on Thuram…

It would certainly continue to show Villa’s owners are very serious and are not going to mess about in their attempts to break into the European spots after signing Philippe Coutinho last January and are now wanting to lure France international Thuram to Villa Park.

Thuram is certainly a wanted man so it won’t be easy for Villa to sign him, especially in January as he will know in the summer he will have his pick of clubs as a free agent and also be able to command a heftier wage packet as he wouldn’t require a transfer fee.

However, the chance to play in the Premier League and work with Emery who has a great track record of winning silverware over the last few years could well be enough to see him jump ship mid-season.
