Journalist, Ryan Taylor has tipped Marcus Thuram as a ‘realistic’ target for Aston Villa in the January window.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Taylor said that the Frenchman would be ‘much more attainable’ than club-linked Joao Felix.

The Express reported that Villa are looking to bring in a ‘marquee’ wide player, listing Thuram as one of their targets.

Thuram’s contract with his current side, Borussia Monchengladbach runs out next summer. The Bundesliga side could look to let him go in January, so they can generate a fee for him.

There will be competition for the player both Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are also linked with the player.

Taylor stated, “There are other targets that Villa are looking at that are probably much more attainable than Félix. One being Marcus Thuram who is out of contract at the end of the season and free to negotiate with foreign clubs in January. I see that as a realistic January target that could be available at a cut price.”

TIF’s view on Taylor’s comments…

We believe that Thuram would be an excellent addition to a number of sides, including Aston Villa.

The Frenchman has ensured an impressive campaign in the Bundesliga. He’s picked up 13 goal contributions in 15 games for Gladbach. That form hasn’t gone unnoticed, as the 25-year-old was called up to France’s World Cup squad.

Thuram would definitely boost Villa’s firepower, scoring goals has been a real issue for them, netting only 16 times this season. Only six Premier League sides have a lower tally so far this campaign.

Whilst the likes of Spurs and Newcastle are better off than Villa when looking at the league table, you can’t rule them completely out of the equation.

Manager, Unai Emery, has a fantastic CV, managing the likes of Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla to name a few. Thuram may find the prospect of working for such a decorated coach a very attractive offer.
