Former Arsenal player Dani Ceballos has praised ‘incredible professional’ Mohamed Elneny after his brief cameo for the club off the bench.

After Premier League football was put on hold during November and December for the World Cup, the Gunners finally got back to business on Boxing Day.

Indeed, they claimed an impressive 3-1 win over West Ham United thanks to efforts from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah which helped turn the game around after they fell behind to a Said Benrahma penalty.

Late on in the game and with only seconds left on the clock, Mikel Arteta brought Elneny on as a substitute to help see out the victory for Arsenal. Footage from the stadium led to fun being had at the Egyptian’s expense as he didn’t even touch the ball during his brief cameo.

However, Ceballos took to social media to defend his teammate, explaining: “Incredible professional, incredible teammate. More players like that in football. A luxury player for the Arsenal.”

TIF Thoughts on Mohamed Elneny and Arsenal…

Ceballos spent two seasons on loan with Arsenal before returning to Real Madrid. During that time, he would spent plenty of time with Elneny, who has been at the club since 2016.

And while the Egyptian hasn’t ever exactly been the first name on the teamsheet over the years, he still features regularly off the bench in the league and is a trusted squad player for Arteta.

Evidently, both player and club are happy with one another as Elneny signed a new contract extension last term to keep him with the Gunners for another season.

It’s certainly nice to see Ceballos praising his former teammate and reminding fans that being a good professional in the world of football goes beyond what you simply deliver in each appearance.

Elneny also repaid the faith shown in him by starring during last season’s run-in while Thomas Partey was out injured and nominated for the club’s April Player of the Month award, so Gunners fans should be in no doubt that he can provide the goods when called upon.
