Arsenal’s Thomas Partey was slammed by journalist Evans Annang after a ‘woeful’ World Cup display for Ghana, who lost 2-0 against Uruguay.

Due to South Korea’s victory against Portugal, both sides crashed out at the group stage. All the African side had to do was draw to secure a spot in the round of 16.

This season, Partey ranks joint-fourth for Arsenal based on their average ratings from Sofascore with 7.16.

However, that form for the Gunners did not translate on the pitch for the Black Stars on Friday.

Writing for outlet Pulse Ghana, Annang handed the midfielder a 4/10 rating and had this to say about his display: “Another woeful performance from the Arsenal star for the Black Stars. Thomas Partey’s continuous poor displays for the national team continued in such a crucial game.”

TIF Thoughts on Annang’s comments…

It was certainly a bad day at the office for Partey. At 29, he’ll hope he can get another chance on the big stage for his nation.

The Ghanaian is an excellent distributor of the ball, as he has an 88% pass accuracy in the Premier League this season. Additionally, he averages just over two tackles per game (Sofascore), demonstrating that Partey is a fine distributor and winner of the ball.

Partey certainly struggled out there for Ghana, having lost the ball 22 times throughout the game as well as giving away two fouls (via Sofascore).

Arsenal currently sit top of the Premier League and have the joint-best defence in the league alongside Newcastle United with 11 conceded.

But if the Gunners are to continue to push for the title, the likes of Partey will need to continue his fine club form and hope his World Cup displays don’t continue into the new year.
