Journalist, Paul Brown has told GiveMeSport that Arsenal’s likelihood of signing Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykhailo Mudryk, ‘will depend on the price’.

The Athletic has reported that the Ukrainian side has put a £86 million price tag on the 21-year-old.

However, there are a number of other clubs that have an interest in Mudryk. The same report says that Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Everton, Brentford and Bayer Leverkusen are all in competition with Arsenal for his signature.

Mudryk gave an interview with Vlada Zinchenko about his future with Shakhtar and was very open about a possible move to Arsenal.

Brown stated, “I think he’s on a list of several wide options. I wouldn’t like to say he’s their number one target because I think it will depend on the price.

“If an agent suddenly told them that the asking price was much less than €100million, he might shoot to the top of the list.

“But I think, at the moment, at that price he is not their top target.”

TIF’s view on Brown’s comments…

We believe that there’s no doubt that Mudryk has the potential to be a fantastic player, he’s been incredible for Shakhtar this season.

In the league, the winger has 13 goal contributions from 12 league appearances. The following season, Mudryk picked up nine goal contributions in the Premier Liga.

When you compare Mudryk to other midfielders in the last year, from the top five leagues, the Champions League and the Europa League, his stats are very impressive. He’s in the top 1% for non-penalty goals, the top 3% for assists and the top 2% for dibbles completed (FBref). Demonstrating that he’s one of the top attacking threats in Europe

However, £86 million is a very steep price for such a young player. It’s clear that Shakhtar wants to hold onto him, which is why they would only let him go for such a high price tag.

So, Arsenal should keep tabs on the Ukrainian, should Shakhtar be open to accepting a lower fee for the player, they should look to capitalise.
