A possible return to Barcelona for Lazio winger Pedro has been ruled out by Lazio president Claudio Lotito.

The 35-year-old won everything on offer at Camp Nou, making 321 appearances and scoring 99 goals for the club before leaving in 2015, but previously spoke about a potential return to Barcelona.

However, Lotito has claimed a move is not possible whilst the Spaniard is under contract at the Stadio Olimpico, and Xavi would have to wait until 2024 to be reunited with his former teammate.

Pedro’s contract runs out in the summer, but Lazio have activated an extension to take it t0 2024 according to Lotito.

“A return to Barcelona is impossible, the contract has been renewed already, there is an option in favour of the club and I won’t let this champion go,” he stated (via Football Italia).

TIF thoughts on Pedro…

Although the winger was incredibly successful at Barcelona during his time there, he should not be considered a transfer option now.

Not only do Barcelona have enough options on the wings, with Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, Ousmane Dembele and Raphinha, but they need to aim for younger players rather than constantly looking to the past.

Pedro has been in decent form for Lazio, with four goals and three assists in 18 appearances, but Xavi should not even remotely consider the idea that he could still prove an asset at the top of La Liga at his age.

Dani Alves returned to the club with limited success last season, and with the likes of Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Robert Lewandowski ageing, another player in his mid-30s is simply not needed at the club.
