Barcelona director Jordi Cruyff has shared details of the financial situation at the club, which means they will not be active in the January transfer window.
Speaking to RAC1, Cruyff stated that there are complications that mean there will be no investment in January after a summer window in which they brought in the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde for large transfer fees.
“Right now, we wouldn’t be able to sign in the winter market. It’s not a question of just selling one player, it’s more complicated than that,” Cruyff claimed.
With Barcelona crashing out of the Champions League group stages for the second year running, the long-term financial future looks unstable, and prudence may be necessary in upcoming transfer windows.

The club can only look at themselves when it comes to managing their spending, and after an outlay of around €153m (£131m) in the summer, we believe they will need to be smarter in their recruitment.
Although they have improved under Xavi, some of the signings did not have the intended impact, particularly in the Champions League, and some have barely featured.
Hector Bellerin, Franck Kessie and Marcos Alonso have sat on the sidelines for the most part since joining, whilst Raphinha has remained inconsistent with just two goals in 18 matches.
Although a talented player, spending €58m (£50m) on a winger when the club already had Ousmane Dembele and Ferran Torres may be looked at as a deal that could have waited until finances had stabilised.
The Blaugrana will now be unable to strengthen the squad further as they go toe-to-toe with Real Madrid in the La Liga title race, with Xavi’s side currently two points clear of their rivals.
