Frank Lampard is desperate to add a striker to his squad in the January transfer window, according to journalist Simon Phillips.
Everton are currently 17th in the Premier League table, and recently let forward Salomon Rondon leave the club by terminating his contract, and Lampard is looking to add more firepower to his side.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been the first choice up front, but inconsistent form and injury struggles have meant that he has played just six games this season, scoring once.
With just 12 goals in 16 games, Everton desperately need attacking reinforcements if they are to steer clear of the drop, and will have to be active in the market.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Phillips claimed that Lampard will aim to bring in a midfielder and a striker, with a forward being a priority.
“Lampard still wants to boost the midfield and he also wants a striker in January. Those are the two priorities. But the striker was still a priority in the summer even though they still had [Salomon] Rondon then,” he stated.
“They didn’t have enough trust in him and Lampard didn’t really back him, so Lampard has been asking for a new striker since the summer. [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin, obviously struggling with a lot of injuries lately, so that’s another reason why Lampard is pushing hard now to bring a new striker in in January.”
TIF thoughts on Everton…
It is clear that a striker has to be a priority for the club, with Neal Maupay scoring just one league goal in 11 games as Calvert-Lewin’s understudy since arriving in the summer.
Mohammed Kudus and Boulaye Dia have been linked, and both would arrive as forwards in good goalscoring form for their current clubs.
Whoever comes in will need to have an immediate impact to help Lampard’s side climb up the table, and it is a risky signing. If the striker does not play well, it could be the difference between relegation and survival.
