Express & Star journalist Lewis Cox revealed his happiness to finally see Daryl Dike on the scoresheet for West Bromwich Albion.

Dike scored West Brom’s late winner in their 2-1 comeback win in the Championship on Monday night.

The Baggies fell behind to a first-half Amad Diallo penalty before substitutes Tom Rogic and Dike turned the game on its head with sumptuous finishes to make it four wins on the bounce for the Baggies on their return to Championship action following the World Cup break.

The winner was Dike’s first goal for the club, while he also set up Rogic’s equaliser as he racked up what was only his 38th minute of senior football this season following a thigh problem he picked up after the first game of the campaign.

West Brom journalist Cox was left buzzing in his post-match video on the Express & Star channel following the 22-year-old’s impact.

He said: “Dike, almost 12 months at the club, isn’t it – two horrific muscle injuries probably totalling easily half his time at the club and beyond.

“That goal is seemingly all of what he’s about, isn’t it – the power, the movement, the physicality to jump clear of the defenders and power a header into the corner.

“Amazing for him, what a script, what a moment. If he can stay fit and in the form we saw – not just the goal tonight… if he can maintain that, then happy days.”

TIF Thoughts on Cox’s comments…

Dike’s return to form and fitness will be massive for a Baggies side who’ve struggled virtually the whole campaign, with them found floundering in the relegation zone before the change of form under Carlos Corberan.

The American striker arrived at The Hawthorns in the January window of last season from Orlando City with a big reputation in the Championship after scoring nine goals on loan at Barnsley as they reached the play-offs in the 2020/21 season.

However, his injury nightmare started when he played only twice last term before missing the remainder of the campaign with injury.

His winner on Monday night was his first goal for the Baggies and showed just how important he will be if he can stay fit and firing under the Spaniard.
