Journalist Phil Smith has claimed that linked away Sunderland ace Ross Stewart is eager to stay on Wearside.

The Scotland international has been tipped with a move away during the January transfer window with clubs such as Rangers, Olympiacos and Middlesbrough all said to hold an interest in the big striker.

It’s since been reported that Sunderland are very much not looking to sell Stewart given they’ve slapped a £10 million price tag on their star striker’s head despite just 661 minutes of Championship football under his belt.

Despite being linked to a club such as Rangers, Smith has claimed on The Roar podcast that Stewart is wanting to stay with the Black Cats.

(27:20) “I think we’re in a situation where I still think Stewart wants to stay with the club, well, Stewart does want to stay at the club and Sunderland want to keep him.

Do you think Stewart will sign a new contract?

“However, Stewart is also really ambitious and there’s a bit of a standoff as there’s clearly a difference in valuation.”

TIF Thoughts on Stewart’s future…

It’s no surprise that Stewart and Sunderland are keen on continuing their journeys together as it’s been a huge success for both with the striker having netted 32 goals since the start of last season and he helped fire the club back into the Championship.

This current PL centre-back almost signed for Sunderland back in 2015.

However, if the Black Cats can’t keep up with his own personal development then they may well have to think about cashing in before his value starts to drop significantly, although it would be a shock if that was in January.

Stewart is clearly an accomplished striker and good enough for the Championship having scored six goals in just seven league starts this season so there’s no surprise that top clubs across Europe, such as Rangers and Greek giants Olympiacos, are keen on the striker.
