Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel has dismissed rumours linking him to Bayern Munich.
Kobel has proven to be another piece of inspired business from Dortmund with him making the number one shirt his own since his €15m (£13m) move from Stuttgart in 2021.
The 24-year-old played 40 times last season after displacing fellow Swiss international Roman Burki before continuing on his form this campaign making 16 appearances, only missing a handful through injury.
His rise hasn’t gone unnoticed with Bayern once again circling around the Westfalenstadion looking to prize away their main Bundesliga rivals’ talents again, with Sky Sports Germany previously reporting Bayern are closely monitoring the four-time Swiss international.
However, the shot-stopper may buck the trend and has revealed his plans to stay in Dortmund amid the links to the Bundesliga champions.
“I did not hear those stories and that’s not of interest to me either. I play for Borussia Dortmund and we have big plans with BVB. That’s all I care about,” Kobel told Sport1 (via Fabrizio Romano).
TIF Thoughts on Kobel’s comments…
It seems the best thing for Kobel’s development is to avoid signing for Bayern Munich, especially with Manuel Neuer looking like he could continue on for years to come after Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn previously questioned why the 36-year-old couldn’t stay at the club until his forties.
BVB have struggled so far this campaign with only eight wins coming from 15 games, leaving them in sixth place but only five points behind second-place Freiburg.
But with the quality and financial capability in the Dortmund ranks, we think the 24-year-old will be making a wise decision to ignore exit rumours and stay in the north rather than become an understudy to Neuer.
