Journalist Kerry Hau has revealed that Bayern Munich held an interest in Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix over the summer, but that interest has now been dropped.

The Portugal international is set to depart Madrid after his differences with manager Diego Simeone could not be resolved, and given Bayern’s transfer interest over the summer, Munich was touted as a potential destination.

However, during the summer, Bayern made a move for the 23-year-old which was rejected, according to Hau, but they have now pulled out of the race for his signature. After the departure of Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona, a new striker may be on the horizon but that will not be Felix.

The attacker, who joined from Benfica in 2019 for a huge figure, has scored four goals in 18 appearances this season, and is set to leave as he is unhappy with Atletico’s defensive style of play. CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin seems certain that the player wants to leave, and they will be willing to listen to offers.

“According to SPORT1 information, there is currently no interest at FCB ! The former exceptional talent is no longer an issue, there was no contact.,” Hau claimed.

TIF thoughts on Felix…

It is clear that the talented striker needs to play in an attacking system to thrive, and he could slot into the Bayern attack perfectly.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has done well this season to cover for the absence of Lewandowski, but Felix could be an option for the long term.

With Bayern pulling out, the door is open for Felix to join another top club, with Manchester United and Arsenal viable options, and whilst it may take a large fee to secure his signature, it will be worth it if he starts firing and enjoying his football again.
