Tottenham Hotspur could now be set to allow Djed Spence to depart on loan in January following a lack of opportunities under Antonio Conte.
This has been suggested by the journalist George Sessions who has been talking to Chris Cowlin ahead of the January transfer window.
It has been a disappointing start to the 2022/23 campaign for the young right wing-back who made the move to north London in the summer from Middlesbrough.
However, his opportunities under the Italian manager have been extremely limited with just 26 minutes of game time under his belt across all competitions (via Transfermarkt).
And with opportunities for the young Englishman few and far between, Sessions is fearing the 22-year-old could well be heading for a loan move away from N17:
(32:30) “I’d like to think that Emerson [Royal] would be the one that we sold in January and Spurs move forward with Doherty and Djed Spence, but I do yeah, I fear that Djed Spence will go out and loan and then and then we obviously keep Emerson.”
TIF Thoughts on Sessions’ comments…
The recent cup game against Nottingham Forest felt like the perfect opportunity to give Spence a run-out but Conte looked past him and selected Matt Doherty.
Has Spence been treated harshly by Conte?
Yes
No
And despite coming on and impressing, in the next game against Leeds United, he was not rewarded with any game time whatsoever.
Earlier this week, it was noticed that Spence had removed everything Tottenham related from his Instagram profile which may add further fuel to the fire regarding a potential move in the winter window.
With it looking unlikely Conte is going to select Spence anytime soon, it does feel as if a loan move away could well be his best option in January.
