Pundit Kevin Campbell has claimed that Steven Gerrard may well be tempted to go back to Rangers as he has ‘potentially unfinished business there’.

The Englishman is currently out of a job having been sacked from his role with Premier League club Aston Villa back in October after just 11 months in charge.

Of course, before he took over the Villans, he was with Rangers and tasted significant success with the Scottish Premiership outfit as he helped them win their first league title win in 10 years.

While speaking about the former manager in a recent interview with Football Insider, Campbell claimed that Gerrard will likely have the chance to remain in England and work, but he could see him returning to Scotland for a second spell with the Light Blues.

“I think you could say there is potentially unfinished business there for Steven Gerrard but I do not know.

“I still think Gerrard will get work this end, in the Premier League or even in the Championship. I do think he will get the opportunity to work.

“But, if that does open up at Rangers he might be tempted to go back. He was a revelation at the football club.”

TIF thoughts on Steven Gerrard and Rangers…

Of course, this matter feels all the more pertinent as Rangers could be on the lookout for a new head coach in the very near future. Indeed, current boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst is under much scrutiny in the media.

For instance, Football Insider reported earlier this week that the club have actually held ‘crunch talks’ to discuss the Dutchman’s position with the club amid ‘intense pressure’.

Should he depart, then Gerrard surely would at least be in with a shot of returning to Rangers. After all, in 192 matches in charge of the club, he averaged an impressive 2.15 points per game and also won that league title.

It’ll be interesting to keep an eye on this one as it all plays out.
