Former Rangers centre-back Craig Moore believes that Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be removed from his position as manager before the season resumes.

With a nine-point gap to the top of the Scottish Premiership now opened up, Moore believes there is no way back for the Dutchman.

The Gers were dumped out of the Champions League as the worst side in the history of the group stage, while domestically, things haven’t been much better.

A 1-1 draw with St Mirren on Saturday could well be the final straw – and Moore certainly seems to think that it will be.

Speaking on the GO Radio Football Show, he said: “I struggle, if I’m honest, to see how the club can move forward with Giovanni.

“I think the nine-point gap at this stage is something that is too big. I [felt that] the last three games leading into the break, maximum points was something that had to be achieved for Gio to stay in the role.

“That didn’t happen, and therefore, I think there will be change. Obviously, we’re not hearing a great deal coming out of Rangers at this moment in time, but I can only assume that there are some hefty conversations happening behind closed doors.”

Will Giovanni van Bronckhorst still be at Rangers by Christmas?

Football Insider reported last week that the Ibrox board were holding crunch talks over Van Bronckhorst’s future at the club, and it appears that the manager could well be on borrowed time in Glasgow.

The side have been booed off the pitch on more than one occasion this term, with fans growing increasingly frustrated.

Despite investment in recent windows, the club have failed to land as many hits as they would have liked in the market.

However, we feel that the blame can’t all be laid at Van Bronckhorst’s door, especially when it comes to recruitment, and while he hasn’t been helped by injuries, the buck ultimately stops at the manager and he hasn’t been able to get the best out of the team this season.
